Fact of the Week #150: An added benefit of many prison arts programs is the opportunity for inmate artists to reconnect with society through their art in the form of auctions that support local nonprofit organizations, or community beautification projects (Brewster,1983,2012; Schrift, 2006,260-2). Displaying or selling artwork, performing music, and theater, or having public reading of inmate prose and poetry, provides inmates the opportunity to engage in "productive exchanges with community before and after release" (Johnson, 2008,107).  cjcj.org
